Michael’s Missive November 1

November 1, 2017

First Pres Community –

Happy All Saint’s Day!  Dating back to 750AD, November 1 has been a day when Christians remember and revere those who have entered the Church Triumphant.  And yes, there was a Halloween tie-in…but not to what Halloween has morphed into today.  All Saint’s Day is like a Christian Memorial Day.  A day to give thanks to God for Paul and Junia, for Luther and Knox, for Berg and Miller, and for all those godly people who have gone before us including those who have personally touched your life.  May you have a blessed day as you do so.

All Saint’s Day is a perfect start to our season of Thanksgiving where a number of celebrations will occur.

THIS SUNDAY, at the 11am service, we will be “Celebrating the Years of Music with Helen” (Martin).  At both the 9am and the 11am service, we will give thanks to God for all the saints, the sermon will be “Celebrate with Music”, and Communion will be observed.  At 10am, during our Faith and Fellowship time, there will be Sunday School classes for all ages.  Nursery care is provided all morning.

THIS WEEKEND, we partner with Chapel Hill Church to present a Community Awareness Suicide Training event called “Soul Shop: Ministering to Suicidal Desperation.”  Friday evening is free, 7-9pm, open to all.  Saturday is all day training that costs $10 with spots still available.  Registration for Saturday is required at:  www.eventbrite.com/e/soul-shop-for-leaders-tickets-37702219353.  (This just in: If you enter the promo code “Jesus” when you register then you won’t have to enter payment info.)  Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church is located at 3108 Westbound US 40 Hwy in Blue Springs.

Thursday, November 9, Keenagers at the church, $5 for lunch at Noon, program by Hearing Health Associates.

Saturday, November 11 is our Annual Holiday Festival, 9-Noon in our Fellowship Hall.  Lots of vendors for your holiday shopping.  Breakfast available ($3).  Donations of laundry detergent to support our neighbors at John Calvin Manor are welcome.  Also, at 7:30am, Men’s  Group will have their monthly breakfast and meeting downstairs in the Center Room.

Sunday, November 12 is our 160/50/20 CHURCH ANNIVERSARY Celebration, 2-4pm.  Come greet former members and staff and guests, enjoy the memorabilia and stories, and celebrate this wonderful church.  Rededication prayer at 3pm.

Monday, November 13, at 6:30pm is CROON (a cabaret show) in a benefit concert for FPCLS renovation projects.  Check Todd Murray and the combo out at: https://toddmurray.com/   They sing across the country and have won numerous awards.  Tickets are $25 and available in the Narthex.

Looking ahead…
