Looking Ahead for 2018-19 –
Youth and Children’s Programs.
The Summer of 2018 literally flew by, but our Youth and young people packed a great deal into those ten weeks. We participated in Traveling Day Camp in June and had a record number of campers. Our Junior Counselors were amazing: They provided leadership, mentored the younger ones and established friendships that will last forever.
July was just about as busy as the Youth embarked on Mission Week. During this time, they helped and assisted at various local organizations such as Coldwater, Cherith Brook, Lee’s Summit Social Services and the Hillcrest Thrift Store. It was at these facilities where our Youth were most impacted. They helped provide lunch for kids, assisted the homeless with meals, clothes and a place to clean up, and sorted food, clothing and toys for underprivileged folks in our own community. They even found time to prepare and deliver dinner to some members of our own congregation.
But that’s behind us. Now it’s time to look ahead and see what challenges the Fall has in store for us.
We’re very excited to be able to offer FOUR different classes this year for our young people.
Our younger high schoolers and middle schoolers will comprise our CONFIRMATION CLASS. This will be one of the largest groups we’ve had in recent memory and it will be an exciting but informative ride they will take from September to May and will culminate in their being Confirmed in the Spring.
The younger children will be divided into two classes and they will be using “Feasting on the Word”, a Lectionary based curriculum that will be challenging, interesting and fun. The younger class will include kindergarteners, first and second graders. The older class will be made up of third through sixth graders.
For our upper-class high schoolers there will be a very special and carefully selected curriculum tailored to topics and challenges these young men and women face every day. The “Faith Questions” series will include topics such as ‘Forgiveness’, ‘What is a Presbyterian?’ and ‘War’ just to name a few.
With all the excitement, momentum and energy generated in the past few months within our youth programs we believe it’s vitally important to maintain that throughout the Fall. These programs and curriculums – and our teachers – will challenge our kids to ask why?, how does this affect me?, and how can I apply these lessons in my life?.
WE HOPE YOU’LL JOIN US SEPTEMBER 16th AS WE BEGIN OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAMS!
