Michael’s Missives for October 23, 2019

First Pres Community –

Kudos, kneecaps, catastrophes, and coming events…

First, kudos to all who supported our Rise Against Hunger endeavor.  There was a nice article about our church in yesterday’s LS Journal/KC Star.  It is also on the church’s FB page.  80 of you showed to fill bags that will provide 11,262 meals.  You gave $3,864 (so far.)  It was wonderful to experience all ages working together to make a difference for others as the heart and hands of Christ in this world.

Additional kudos to those who helped with our first free clinic last Sunday afternoon where 27 people received medical care.  Also, kudos to all who have made their pledges for 2020…they are still being received and appreciated by Session in determining what we can do in 2020.

Second, kneecaps…I have been there and done that.  It is weird to feel your kneecap out of place and easy to move back into place.  Many of you have experience with dislocations, so you know it is all just a matter of rehab and precautions.  “Kneecaps are God’s afterthought” I was told after I injured mine…made me laugh.  I know we are “intricately and wonderfully made”, but kneecaps do seem like an extra piece I would have to add when making a person out of playdough.

Third, catastrophes from fires, flooding, and tornados have occurred this week.  Please keep all affected in your prayers as well as the help Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and others are bringing. Remember Trawick Presbyterian Church (where Cliff Horton served) which has burned to the ground…thankfully no one was hurt.   Also keep the Kurds in Syria in your prayers right now, many are our Christian brothers and sisters.

Fourth, coming events.  TRUNK OR TREAT & CHILI COOK-OFF is THIS SUNDAY!!!  We could still use a few more trunks (we have a decorator).  The Trunk or Treat will be from 4-5pm.  The Chili Cookoff will be from 5-6pm.  (Chiefs play at 7:20pm.)   If you are bringing chili, do so at 4…judging will be at 4:30.  EVERYONE:  Wear a costume; if you can, decorate your car or make chili; and come join the fun!  $3/person or $10/family.  Toilet paper donations for John Calvin Manor will be received.  Remember to invite children, families, and friends.  Awards for costumes and chilis.  Again, a great event for all ages.

THIS SUNDAY, the sermon at both the 9am and 11am services will be “God’s Generosity of Grace“.  Noisy Offering will be for Rise Against Hunger, Bibles will be presented to our 3rd graders, and pledges will continue to be received.  At 10am is our Faith and Fellowship Hour.  Nursery care is provided all morning.

TONIGHT, Logos from 5:30-7:30pm.  Youth Group, 6:30-7:30pm.  Bells at 6:30pm and Choir at 7:30pm.

See you this Sunday…if not before.  Have a blessed day.

In the faith, hope, and love of Jesus –

Your pastor and friend  Michael
