First Pres Community –

 Merry Christmas!  Happy New Year!

This will be my last Missive for 2019.  One week from today is Christmas.  Two weeks from today is New Year’s Day.  The Church Office will be closed Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day.  I will be gone some of that time so if you cannot reach me and you need pastoral care, contact Stephen Leader Sharon Pyburn.

Bad weather last Sunday forced the postponement of the Cantata, so…

THIS SUNDAY, our Chancel Choir will perform the Christmas Cantata “The Silence and the Sound” at the 11am service of worship.  At the 9am service, the sermon will be “Christmas Wonder”.  At both services, there will also be the CHILDREN’S PRESENTATION (no Children’s Sermon).  The PCUSA’s Christmas Joy Offering will received and dedicated.  During the 10am, Faith and Fellowship Time, Sunday School classes are offered for all ages.  Nursery care is lovingly provided all morning.

THIS SUNDAY, Pax Community Health (which postponed last Sunday) will provide free medical care from 1-5pm in the clinic downstairs in our facility.

CHRISTMAS EVE services will be held at 4pm (child friendly traditional); 5:30pm (contemporary); and 7:30pm (traditional).  Childcare provided at the 5:30 and 7:30 services.

Tonight, Logos at 5:30pm. No Bells.  Choir at 7:30pm.  All 3 will not meet the next 2 Wednesdays.

The All-Church Christmas Party and Potluck has not been rescheduled at this time.  The Mitten Tree is still up.  Gifts of hats, mittens, and scarves will be given to Lee’s Summit Social Services to help those without these items of warmth.

Lastly, remember to pray daily (at 6:57 or 18:57) our Breakthrough Prayer:

Lord God, make known to us Your plans for our church and for us as individuals. Open our minds & encourage our hearts to live out those plans & live into Your future. Through the power of Your Spirit, to Your glory, & in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Have a blessed Christmas and a great start to the new year!

In the faith, hope, and love of Jesus –

Your pastor and friend  Michael

PS – a few announcements from our Mission AT…

GREETINGS from your Mission Action Team.  Many thanks for your donations, time and dedication to Mission projects.  We start 2020 with the “Souper Bowl” food drive to benefit Lee’s Summit Social Services.  With changing times, economics and regional needs, there is a greater need for support.  Soup, canned goods, dehydrated potatoes, dressings, etc. will greatly appreciated.  Noisy offering in January will be donated for utilities and other uses.

February 2020 project will be Cherith Brook – information to follow.

All are encouraged to volunteer to support these worthy causes.  It may be an “eye opening” experience to see how much good we do as a church family to benefit those in need.

BEST CHOICE LABELS – The donation can is in the church office.  1000 labels count for $30 donated to LSSS.  Contact Carol Phillips for questions.
